Could you adopt brothers and sisters to keep them together?
Adoption Lancashire and Blackpool are working together with other Regional and Voluntary Adoption Agencies from across the North West, to develop the “Growing Families Together” campaign. Our 'Nobody Knows Me Better' campaign highlights the need for adopters who would consider adopting brothers and sisters, as they often wait longer than others to be adopted.
Many of our children are brothers and sisters, and because we always try to keep them together, they often wait longer to find their adoptive families due to the lack of prospective adopters approved and waiting for more than one child.
Brothers and sisters share a special bond and keeping them together provides ongoing companionship and emotional support throughout their lives. Many of these children have been through difficult experiences and having their brother or sister by their side, can help them to feel safe and settle more easily into their new home.
Our children who are aged 4 and over, are often classed as “older children” in the adoption world, and they also wait some of the longest times to be adopted.
Adopting a child over 4 can be a fulfilling experience, this is the time they are developing into amazing individuals with their own unique personalities. They are exploring the world and experiencing new things every day.
The strength of the parent-child bond is not determined by age but by the quality of care and support provided; with patience and understanding, families can create strong, lifelong bonds.
In this heart-warming video, you’ll hear real adopted children sharing what they love (and sometimes don’t love!) most about their brother or sister. Their voices tell a powerful story about the unbreakable bond between siblings.
While it might not always be easy, there is a range of support available.
We offer a range of adoption support services which starts with preparation to adopt, and includes support groups, training, workshops, family days and more specialised therapy.
