Concurrency

We are one of very few adoption agencies in the North West that do this very special kind of placement which we call concurrency. If a baby or child is considered for this type of placement, there is a strong probability that they will not be returned to their birth family. Should the baby be unable to return to the care of their birth family, the carers go on to adopt and become the legal parents.

The aim is to give babies and children under two years old a better start in life. The young children go to carers in a fostering arrangement while the court decides on their future.

Carers for these special types of placement are assessed and trained as prospective foster carers and adopters. When a child is placed, they act as foster carers for the child. They support contact with birth family members while the court decides the child's future.

The court may decide that the birth parents are able to meet the needs of the child.
